~ About us ~
Australian Organic Wool is a family operated business located at the foot hills of the World Heritage Border Rangers National Park near Nimbin.
The business was created by Mel McMillan, after a fruitless search for an Australian organic wool yarn with which to knit for her children. Mel decided to create her own and at the beginning of 2007 the first WOOLganic yarn was spun.
Our first range of yarns were undyed and woolen spun. We have now developed the WOOLganic range of worsted spun yarns, dyed with low impact metal-free dyes and we are so proud of them.
We hope you enjoy knitting with our yarns as much as we have enjoyed creating them for you.
We would like to thank all the Australian organic and bio-dynamic wool growers who have generously advised us, supported and encouraged us on what has been an enormously steep learning curve.
Also, Australian painter Jenny Bluefields for her uncanny eye for colour and her help selecting the first ten WOOLganic colours.
And much thanks to mother earth and the amazing Merino sheep for her wool.
